Construction of Thai Binh power plant set to begin

The plant is being built in My Loc Commune of Thai Thuy District in the northern province of Thai Binh by the Electricity of Viet Nam Group (EVN) and Japanese contractor Marubeni at a cost of VND26.5 trillion (US$ 1.27 billion).

The Japan International Co-operation Agency provided some 85 per cent of the capital through ODA and the remainder of the money came from the EVN.

The 115- hectare plant consists of two turbines. The first turbine is scheduled to begin generating power in November 2017, and the second in May 2018.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked the EVN to work closely with contractors to carry out the project in accordance with regulations on investment and construction.

Hai also requested local authorities to pay closer attention to the resettlement of displaced residents and inspections of the project’s progress.
