Deputy PM says appropriate technology needed for high-speed trains

The project must aid the sustainable and comprehensive development of the country’s transport system, he said.

The Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment will assess its environmental impact. To choose the appropriate technology for Vietnamese conditions, it is necessary to learn about advanced railway technologies in other countries like France, Germany, and Japan, he emphasized.

After considering the reports, the Government will submit its proposal to the National Assembly for approval in October.

The project will require around 4,170 hectares of land, estimated to cost USD 55.7 billion. The 1,555 kilometer railroad system will have 25 stations and carry 48,000 passengers a day in 2020 and 85,000 passengers in 2025.
