HCM City continues to invest in maritime border areas

Reports from the Committee said that the City instructed involved agencies and Can Gio district to closely coordinate with border guard and military forces in educating the Regulations and related documents for local people.

According to assessments, the education drives increased public awareness of the strategic position and importance of national seas and islands.

The City also implemented a number of projects in maritime border areas, especially investing VND 100 billion in infrastructure serving aqua-culture and fishery, upgrading dams and river banks.

Involved bodies and border guard units under the City’s directions strictly maintained maritime protection activities, patrols and checks and dealt with law breaking cases.

At the conference, delegates thoroughly discussed the situation and measures and provided a number of proposals and ideas in an effort to effectively implement the Decree in the future.

They proposed that the City should give more priorities for investment in and development of socio-economic, security and defence projects in maritime border areas and that the Regulation should be added to the official education and training programmes of local schools at levels.

The Municipal People’s Committee affirmed that it would pay more attention to public education to improve local people’s awareness and responsibility for national sovereignty on seas and islands and continue to invest in socio-economic development projects in maritime border areas.

Organizations and individuals with outstanding achievements in the implementation of the Decree over the past 10 years were honoured at the conference.
