Korea’s ODA flow into Vietnam’s infrastructure starts up

According to the Hanoi Capital construction project approved in May 2008 by the prime minister, Vinh Thinh Bridge will replace Vinh Thinh ferry boat on National Road 2C linking Hanoi’s Son Tay area with Vinh Phuc province where many high tech parks, tourism sites, industrial zones and residence areas now coming up, connecting Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway with Ho Chi Minh road. In future, Vinh Thinh will become one of five major bridges on Ringroad 5.

With the length of 4.4 kilometres and the width of 5.5 meters, Vinh Thinh four-lane Bridge is one of the biggest works ever taken up on Red River.

Vu Xuan Hoa, general director of Ministry of Traffic and Transportation’s Thang Long PMU as the investor of Vinh Thinh Bridge project said that the construction ranks after Thang Long and Thanh Tri Bridge in terms of length and width. This is also the first traffic infrastructure project using ODA of Korean government, he added.

EDCF will finance USD100 million for work installation, construction, consultancy services and service fees. Vietnam’s corresponding capital of USD37.1 million will be used for ground clearance, project management and for consulting service. Earlier, the Korean fund also funded Vietnamese Ministry of Traffic and Transportation in building the feasibility study for the Vinh Thinh Bridge. The project will be started in next January and finished and operational by December 2013.

In addition, Korea is supporting about USD10.8 million to the technical design of the southern coastal road crossing Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. In Vietnam, two sub-projects Minh Luong-Saturday and Rach Gia City road line capitalised at total USD130 million will also financed by Korean government.

Also, the traffic and transportation ministry has proposed to the prime minister to approve the usage of EDCF’s funding of USD270 million to build Vam Cong Bridge on National Road 60.
