Over 20% of HCMC’s area would be flooded when sea level rising 1 m
Accordingly, the average emission scenario specifies that in mid-21st century, most of Vietnam’s area may have annual temperature increasing from 1.2 to 1.6 degrees Celsius and in the end of this century, the hot sunny days in the year would increase from 10-20 days.
Also according to this scenario, in the end of 21st century, sea levels would be highest in the region from Ca Mau to Kien Giang, ranging from 62 to 82 cm and the lowest in the area of Mong Cai (Quang Ninh), about 49 to 64 cm. The average level in Vietnam may rise about 58 to 73 cm. If sea levels rise by 1 meter, there would be about 39% of the Mekong Delta, over 10% of the Red River delta, 2.5% of the central coastal provinces and over 20% of Ho Chi Minh’s areas being in risk of flooding.
