Quang Ngai released results of census 2009
SCPHC said that to April 1 2009, Quang Ngai population was recorded at 1,217,159, of which female covered 50.7%, calculating for 617.010 persons. It also released that Quang Ngai has 322,000 households and ruralists were 85.3% (1,038,583 persons), while cities were 14.7% (178, 576 persons).
Vice-Chairwomen of Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee Dinh Thi Loan-Chairman of SCPHC said that over 3000 surveyors were mobilized to complete the 2009 provincial census within 3 months in according with Vietnamese Prime Minister’s Decision No. 94/2008/QĐ-TTg dated July 10, 2008.
The population data will help districts, departments, agencies to make plans of socio-economic development exactly and scientifically, Madam Loan expressed.
According to the 2009 national census- recently announced in Ha Noi- Vietnam’s population increased by 9.47 million people with the lowest growth rate for 50 years.
With 85,789,573 people (up to 00.00 of April 1, 2009), Vietnam has the third largest population in Southeast Asia (after Indonesia and the Philippines) and ranks the 13th in the world.
The density varies greatly by regions. At least 43% of the population is concentrating in the Red River Delta and the Mekong Delta while one fifth of the population (19%) resides in the northern mountainous areas and the Central Highlands.
The lowest average growth rate (0.4% per year) was seen in the northern part of Central Vietnam and the central coast and the highest in the eastern part of South Vietnam (3.2% per year).
The top-five provinces with the largest population are Ho Chi Minh City (7,123,340); Hanoi (6,448,837), Thanh Hoa (3,400,239); Nghe An (2,931,055) and Dong Nai (2,483,211).
The gender ratio increased to 98.1 male/100 female from the figure one decade ago (96.7:100).
