Vietnam favours US nationals with one-year multiple entry visas
The visa agreement was submitted by State President Tran Dai Quang and approved by the National Assembly on April 4. The deputy prime minister, foreign ministry and chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations also submitted their evaluation reports.
According to the state president, the US has been voicing concerns in recent years that tourists as well as business people have faced difficulties due to the three-month limit on visas.
The Immigration Laws in 2014 stated that only three month to six month visas are given for people come to Vietnam for conferences or personal matters. According to the US, this was inadequate.
With approval from the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked with their US counterpart. The US-Vietnam visa agreement stated that citizens of both countries, who meet immigration requirements, can enjoy multiple entry year-long visas
However both countries reserve the right to shorten the validity of the visa in individual cases.
