Candidates for the program, which has been launched under an agreement between the Vietnamese and Japanese governments, must meet certain requirements, said Nguyen Thanh Hoa, deputy minister of the ministry.

Accordingly, nurse aide candidates are required to be below 35 years of age, have graduated from a 3-year course at a college or a 4-year course at a university, and have a certified good health condition. In addition, they must have no previous convictions and are not subject to criminal consideration.

As for nurse candidates, in addition to the above criteria, they are required to obtain a practitioner’s certificate and have at least two years of experience as a nurse.

Applications must be made through the form issued by the Department of Overseas Labor Management (DOLAB) at www.dolab.gov.vnand then certified by local authorities before being submitted directly, or by post, to DOLAB at 418 Ly Thai To, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, from September 1 to 15, 2012.

Copies of graduation certificates, medical check-up records, professional seniority, and practitioner’s certificates must be enclosed with the application.

Qualified candidates will undergo a 12-month course jointly organized by the ministry and its Japanese partner. After the course, candidates must attend a Japanese language examination at the N3 Level, and those who pass the exam will be introduced to hospitals and healthcare centers in Japan.

The duration for Vietnamese nurses and nurse aides to work in Japan under the program is four years and three years, respectively.

During these periods they will be paid the same as their Japanese counterparts, at VND34-37 million (US$1,630-1,770) per month for nurse aides and VND37-40 million ($1,770-1,920) for nurses, along with allowances, depending on their work location and position.

While working in Japan, Vietnamese nurses and nurse aides will be eligible to attend the respective exams for a Japanese national professional certificate. Those who obtain such a certificate will be allowed to work in Japan on a long-term basis.
