Transportation

The province's stand in transportation development is to base on the existent systems of the 4 main rivers and main roads such as National Highways (NH) 60 and 57, Provincial Roads (PR) 883, 884, 885, 887, and 888.

Construction on the Rach Mieu Bridge, which links Bến Tre to its northern neighbour, Tiền Giang province, was started in 2002. The bridge was finished and opened for traffic on 19 January 2009. Before that time, Bến Tre was only accessible to automobiles via ferry.

River and Sea transportation systems are going on to base mostly on existing strengths, in combination with more investments in modern technological facilities for high-end economic yields. In the next 10 years, Ben Tre province is planning to construct 7 or 8 more ferries. These are considered new gateways that are very important to the province's future development. Then an inland port project is under planning to be built in Phu Tuc Commune on the left bank of My Tho River, which may harbour 3,000-tonne to 3,500-tonne ships, with a discharge capacity of up to 1.2 million tonnes of goods per year.
